What is Amazon EC2?

Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers by allowing them to launch virtual servers with full control over compute resources.

Key benefits include flexible instance types, automatic scaling, integration with storage and networking services, and pay-as-you-go pricing. EC2 is commonly used to host applications, web servers, development environments, and more.

Projects I Deployed Using EC2:

🚀 LAMP Stack Deployment

Set up a Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP stack on EC2 (Amazon Linux 2) to host a dynamic PHP website. Managed configurations, security groups, and connected to RDS for the database layer.

⚙️ LEMP Stack Deployment

Deployed a lightweight and high-performance NGINX server with MySQL and PHP on an Ubuntu EC2 instance. Optimized for fast response time and modular scalability for cloud applications.

What is Amazon S3?

Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is a highly scalable object storage service designed for storing any amount of data from anywhere. It's commonly used for backup, data archiving, hosting static websites, and as storage for other AWS services.

S3 supports static website hosting, versioning, access control, and direct integration with CloudFront and Route 53.

Project I Deployed Using S3:

🌐 Static Website Hosting on S3

Created and configured an S3 bucket to host a static HTML/CSS website. Enabled static website hosting, uploaded website files, and set proper bucket policy and permissions for public access. Integrated with Route 53 for domain-based access.

What is AWS IAM?

AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) lets you control access to AWS services and resources securely. You can create users, groups, roles, and define granular permissions using policies.

IAM is a critical service for ensuring that only authorized entities can perform specific actions in your AWS environment.

Project Using IAM: Instance-State Notification

🔔 EC2 Instance State Change Notification

Configured IAM roles and policies to allow Amazon CloudWatch to monitor EC2 instance state changes (e.g., start, stop, terminate) and trigger Amazon SNS notifications.

IAM was used to grant necessary permissions between CloudWatch and SNS, enabling real-time alerts for EC2 events.

Amazon RDS is a managed database service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale a relational database in the cloud. It supports several engines like MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and SQL Server.

These projects demonstrate real-world scenarios using RDS to handle databases separately from application layers, making your applications more resilient and manageable.

What is Amazon VPC?

Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) allows you to launch AWS resources in a logically isolated virtual network that you define. It gives you complete control over your networking environment, including IP address ranges, subnets, route tables, and gateways.

Project: 3-Tier Architecture using VPC

🏗️ Designed and Deployed a 3-Tier Architecture

Built a secure and scalable 3-tier architecture using VPC, designed as follows:

• Web Tier: EC2 instances in public subnets accessible via the internet
• App Tier: EC2 instances in private subnets for backend application logic
• DB Tier: RDS instance in a private subnet, not directly accessible from the internet

Configured route tables, internet gateway, and NAT gateway for internet access from private subnets where needed. Used security groups to allow communication only between the required layers.

What is Amazon CloudWatch?

Amazon CloudWatch is a monitoring and observability service built for DevOps engineers, developers, and IT managers. It provides real-time metrics, logs, and alarms to monitor AWS resources and applications.

Project: EC2 Instance State Change Notification

🔔 Set Up Event-Based Notification for EC2

Configured CloudWatch to track EC2 instance state changes (e.g., running, stopped, terminated). When the state changed, it triggered an event rule that sent an alert via SNS.

• Created a CloudWatch Event Rule for EC2 state changes
• Integrated with Amazon SNS for email notifications
• Verified notification delivery on each state transition
